Following his return to the BEAR Competitions Cookstown 100 last year, Tramores Brian McCormack will again make the long trek up to Cookstown again, but this time, with his new team mate, Germanys David Datzer, who will be a newcomer to the Cookstown event.(More about this later) Brian McCormack’s racing story began in Tramore, Waterford, where the love of speed was in his blood from the age of eight. Growing up surrounded by the roar of engines and the thrill of competition, it was almost inevitable that Brian would find his way onto the track. His first real taste of racing came in 2002 at Nutts Corner, astride an Aprilia RS 250. That first race set him on a path that would span more than two decades—a journey marked by perseverance, passion, and a relentless pursuit of victory. With 24 years of racing behind him, Brian has collected an impressive list of achievements. He’s notched up national road race wins, claimed the title of Irish Superbike Champion, and secured a double Masters Championship. One of his proudest moments came when he finished 9th in the Senior TT, a testament to his skill and determination at one of the world’s most challenging races. Brian’s first road race came in 2009 at Kilalane, where he finished a respectable seventh—an early sign of the talent that would carry him to the top of Irish motorsport. Today, he rides both the BMW M1000RR and Suzuki GSXR750, machines that match his ambition and drive. Looking ahead to 2025, Brian has set his sights on the TT, selected national road races, and select rounds of the BSB and Irish tracks. For the BEAR Competitions Cookstown 100, Big Mac will be riding his familiar BMW M1000 and GSXR750, ready to take on the competition once again. Brian credits much of his continued success to the support of his sponsors, including Roadhouse Macau, Megabikes, Interpac, Kustom Workwear, Snickers, Solidgear, Klaffi, and Nial Scalon Motors. He also sees the new entry structure devised by the Cookstown Club as a vital step in supporting the sport he loves.
